The Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova team won the Italian Team Championship for the fourteenth time and the seventh time in a row.
The Open Championship took place in Vasto, Palazzo d'Avalos, with 16 teams initially playing in two groups of eight in a round-robin format. Defending champions Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova were beaten by Lazio Scacchi in their group, but still managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the four best teams, the first and second from each group.
In the semi-finals, Obiettivo Risarcimento eliminated the first-placed team in Group B, World Trading Lab Club 64 Modena, after a 3:1 win and met ASD Pedone Isolano in the final, who had come second in Group B after beating Lazio Scacchi 2.5:1.5 in the semi-finals.
The final between Obiettivo Risarcimento and Pedone Isolano then developed into a real thriller. The match with tournament time ended 2:2. Ivan Saric won the duel on the top board for Padova against Kirill Shevchenko, but Lorenzo Lodici equalised against Sabino Brunelli. The games on boards three and four ended in draws.

This was followed by a play-off with rapid chess games, which also ended in a 2:2 draw. The next play-off round was now played in blitz mode (3+2). The defending champion won 3.5:1.5. Ivan Saric, Danyyil Dvirnyy and Artem Gilevych scored full points, Sabino Brunelli contributed a draw.
The teams from Grifone d'Arzignano, Scacchistica Torinese, Mimosa Elite and Circolo Scacchistico Bolognese were relegated from the Champions League to Serie A1.
In the women's championship, a six-round Swiss tournament with nine teams, Pedone Isolano won for the second year in a row, but only because they had a better Sonneborn-Berger score than Caissa Italia Pentole Agnelli. Pedone Isolano played with Sophie Milliet, Tea Gueci, Angela Grimaldi, Valeria Martinelli and Constanza Fiolo on the reserve board.

The Exchange Variation (1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.Bd3) is a simple and easy to learn answer to the Caro-Kann. By clarifying the central tension White gives himself a clear plan of attack using the half open e-file and the e5 square. This is far from easy for Black to meet as Bobby Fischer, Jan Timman, Walter Browne and other leading Grandmasters have demonstrated in their games. Black too has his resources but he needs to know what he's doing. On this DVD you will find a clear explanation of the strategy for both sides as well as answers to popular treatments such as 4...Nc6 5.c3 Qc7. Whilst the main focus is on the White side of this opening you will also find ways for Black to defend.
