Born on January 27, 2004, Christopher Suero was raised in the Dominican Republic, he and his family eventually coming to immigrate to the United States. Settling down in the Bronx, Suero attended All Hallows High School, an all-boys Catholic high school in the shadow of Yankee Stadium. A member of the Gaels baseball team, Suero reclassified and became eligible to sign as an undrafted international free agent, agreeing to terms with the Mets on March 8, 2022, just ahead of what would’ve been his high school graduation a few months later.

He made his professional debut that summer, assigned to the DSL Mets. Appearing in 38 games, he hit .204/.386/.306 with 7 doubles, 1 home run, 4 stolen bases, and 25 walks to 29 strikeouts. In 2023, the 19-year-old was assigned to the FCL Mets and appeared in 22 games for them, hitting .281/.422/.469 with 1 double, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 3 stolen bases, and 14 walks to 18 strikeouts. He began the 2024 season with the St. Lucie Mets and after having a solid month of April, was promoted to the Brooklyn Cyclones in early May.

The 5’10”, 205-pound right-hander holds his hands high at the plate, swinging with a moderate leg kick. His bat is short through the strike zone, and he has posted registered exit velocities in the low-90s. His approach at the plate is very pull heavy, generally pulling flyballs for gap extra base hits. He has had more of his success this season against breaking balls, rather than fastballs.

Suero played the outfield as a high schooler, occasionally pitched, and just dabbled with catching. In his limited innings behind the dish so far as a professional, he has experienced growing pains in certain areas and has demonstrated competency in others. In 562.1.0 total innings behind the plate, he has committed 12 errors and allowed 21 passed balls. Of the 160 runners who have tried to steal against him, he has thrown out 47, a 29% caught stealing rate, which is a shade below average. The 20-year-old has played a few games at first base and has also played a few games in left field and may be athletic enough to transition back to the outfield as a professional.

Cameron Foster

Week: 2 G (1 GS), 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K (Double-A)

2024 Season: 11 G (6 GS), 37.0 IP, 32 H, 16 R, 12 ER (2.92 ERA), 19 BB, 31 K, .279 BABIP (Double-A)

Houston native Cameron Foster attended George Bush High School in Richmond, Texas, graduating in 2017. At 6’5”, 170-pounds, his tall, thin frame hinted at future growth, but for the majority of his prep career, his fastball sat in the high-70s-to-mid-80s and that was not enough to attract interest from scouts and evaluators from professional teams. After graduating, he honored his commitment to Wharton County Junior College, a NJCAA school in Wharton, Texas.

In his freshman year, Foster appeared in 10 games, starting 1, and posted a 9.00 ERA in 26.0 innings, allowing 32 hits, walking 27, and striking out 29. In his sophom*ore year, he appeared in 13 games, starting 7 of them, and posted a 4.25 ERA in 59.1 innings, allowing 69 hits, walking 29, and striking out 65.

In 2020, he transferred to McNeese State University, a public university in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He made 4 appearances, starting 3 games in the pandemic-shortened season, but would be moved into the bullpen the following year, his redshirt junior season. The move benefitted Foster in some ways but hurt him in others. All in all, he posted a 5.32 ERA in 44.0 innings thrown over 22 games, saving 6, while allowing 40 hits, walking 24, and striking out 46. The 23-year-old remained in the closer role in 2022, his redshirt senior season and had his best collegiate season in his final year of collegiate eligibility. Appearing in 29 games and saving 12, he posted a 1.86 ERA in 63.0 innings, allowing 35 hits, walking 20, and striking out 84. He was named Southland Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year and to the All-Southland Conference First Team in recognition of his domination on the field.

The 6’5” Foster throws from a high-three-quarters arm slot. He stays very upright while pushing off the mound, resulting in a very high release point. His mechanics have some violence to them, a reason why he has historically struggled with his command and control. His fastball sits in the mid-90s, and in addition to it, Foster throws a curveball with 11-5 or true 12-6 up-and-down break when he really gets on top of the pitch. He is able to float the pitch into the zone for strikes or outside of the zone for swings-and-misses.
