Thanks for being here

Thanks for being here with me on this journey! I am truly grateful to my dear readers! Thank you for sharing your stories, your food, your time. Thank you for helping me grow.

What a change from 2020, so much weirdness. I guess we are all getting back to things we love. But, with some caution.

As always, if you have questions, or there are recipes you’re looking for, just let me know. I appreciate your time and your efforts, and I’m always trying to make the blog better for you!

I’ve always added helpful tips to the post (or “words” part of the post) but I’m really trying hard to catch all the questions readers might have.

Classic recipes redone

I focused heavily on remaking my older recipes, giving them facelifts, new pictures, new descriptions, and more details. Some of them I’ve even edited the recipe itself, making it more updated and current.

Many of the republished ones have gotten new life. And, with so many of them I was reminded just how delicious they are!

And, I’m very happy with the outcome on so many of them!

Ingredient research and expanding on the subject

This year I shared a couple of great tip-filled posts to help you get the most out of your time in the kitchen.

Check out my Baking Tips post and what to do with leftover cream.

Many years ago, I was given a food lover’s companion book many years ago that gave comprehensive definitions of culinary terms, and I think that started my love of learning more about foods. Researchingthem. Learning the differences and maybe the science behind why something works.

This year, I also shared pictures and videos of a beautiful monarch butterfly coming out of its chrysalis that I called the Monarch butterfly life cycle.

Favorites that you may have missed

Not every recipe can make the top 9 (even though I think they all deserve to!). So, here are some of my favorite recipes that you may have missed.

Great recipes that didn’t make the list

Blue Cheese with fig preserves and candied pecans is probably my new favorite appetizer. Fancy and yet so simple. I made this recipe based off of an appetizer I had at a catered event. It was so good I just knew I had to recreate the masterpiece at home! This recipe didn’t get posted until the end of December, so it didn’t have much time to make it to the top of the list. Pin it

Much like the blue cheese appetizer above is my new favorite, but didn’t get posted until the end of the year, these chocolate mint rugelach are also a new favorite for me. Mint has always been a favorite of mine, but to combine it with these flaky soft buttery delicious cookies just makes it perfect! This is a cookie I’ll make every year from now on! Pin it

This Lemon Cream Pie has been on my blog for many years, and it’s amazing! I originally called it lemon cloud pie, but I guess no one knew what that meant, so no one ever visited it. But let me tell you, this lemon dessert is so good! Creamy and light. Fluffy and tangy. Pin it

I was on a big scone kick this year. I made several batches for us to have for breakfast at home. The two that made it to the blog are Blackberry Cream Sconesand blueberry scones. This scone recipe has been on my blog for years, and it’s one I really love! Easy to make because the cream acts as both the fat and the moisture in the scone. No freezing and grating butter. And these turn out so good every time! Pin blackberry and Pin blueberry

I went to a small pop-up fish store and cooking demonstration this summer, and we got to taste some amazing seafood. This Miso Glazed Black Cod was one of the recipes that they handed out at the event. And let me tell you, it’s amazing! And it works on so many different kinds of fish: salmon, halibut, barramundi, whatever you like. Pin it

Tailgating snacks month 2021 was really fun to go back and revisit some great recipes. Honestly, when I started adding the recipes that I was super happy with from this event I realized that I added every one of the recipes from the month. They are all that good! So, rather than me listing them all again, just hop over to the collection from 2021 and check out the yummy offerings! Pin it

The 9 Most Popular Recipes of 2021: the year in review, as determined by page views. And again, most of these are recipes that have been on my blog for years, but, if they made it on the list, they were updated and republished this year.

Be sure to check out Pinterest, as many people add their reviews and “tried it’s” there. I love finding out what you guys like and how you change the recipes!

Of course, I’d love it if you’d come back here and leave a comment on recipes you’ve tried as well.

Let’s start with #9 and work our way up to #1.

  1. Tuna Cakes. I’ve always loved how easy these tuna cakes are, and how delicious they are! They can be served with a small green salad as a light lunch, or as the main attraction in a tuna cake sandwich or burger. Pin it

  1. Coconut Oat Cookies. These simple to make crispy and chewy drop cookies are so good. I love making the dough and keeping it in the freezer to make a few snacks at a monument’s notice. Pin it

  1. German Pancake. This delicious breakfast or brunch option is so easy to make yet so impressive! When I first started making these delicious pancakes no one had really heard of them, but now I feel like they are fairly mainstream, and they are so popular! Pin it

  1. Salted Chocolate Pretzel Toffee Bark is another recipe that has lived on my blog for years. I’ve made this so many times and it’s always so good! 1. Crispy Roasted Lentils This is the only recipe on the top 9 that’s a new recipe for this year. Well, I guess that’s a little bit incorrect, because I have posted this recipe as part of a couple others Orange-Shallot Tofu with Avocado Served on a Bed of Roasted Lentils and Sausage, Broccoli, and Roasted Lentils. It’s been a favorite of mine for many years. This time I gave it a home of its own, as well as oven and air fryer instructions. Pin it

  1. Chile Salt is a really fun recipe that adds a little heat to any dish. It’s also a great homemade gift to give. Pin it

  1. Mom’s Vegetarian Pot Pie Soup This is a simple and comforting soup. I used to eat those little frozen pot pies from Marie Callendar’s when I was growing up, and a latch key kid. When I became vegetarian, I missed those pot pies most of all. So, I had to learn to make my own. This soup comes from my love of pot pies! And it’s been one of the most popular recipes on my blog for a long time! Pin it
