Homemade Bath Bombs

Give the gift of relaxation with these beautiful bath bombs.

What you’ll need

  • 225 grams baking soda
  • 115 grams citric acid
  • 115 grams Epsom salts
  • 60 grams cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil or almond oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons water
  • A few drops of essential oils (lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, etc.)
  • Food colouring (optional)
  • Bath bomb moulds or muffin tin
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all the dry ingredients (baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salts, and cornstarch). Use a whisk or fork to break up any clumps and ensure the ingredients are well mixed.
  2. In a separate smaller bowl, combine the wet ingredients (melted coconut oil or almond oil, water, essential oils, food colouring if using). Start with a small amount of water and add more as needed until the mixture holds together when squeezed in your hand.
  3. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring constantly to avoid any fizzing. Mix until the ingredients are well combined and the mixture holds together when pressed. It should have a consistency similar to damp sand.
  4. Quickly and firmly pack the mixture into your bath bomb moulds, pressing down to compact it as much as possible. If you’re using a muffin tin, press the mixture firmly into each compartment.
  5. Allow the bath bombs to dry and harden in the moulds for at least 24 hours. You can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for a few hours.
  6. Once the bath bombs are fully set, carefully remove them from the moulds. If they’re stubborn, gently tap the moulds on a hard surface or use a butter knife to loosen the edges.
  7. Store your homemade bath bombs in an airtight container or ziplock bag until you’re ready to use them. Be sure to keep them away from moisture and humidity to prevent them from prematurely fizzing.
