HERBERT CHARLES CAMPBELL, 78, of North Little Rock, passedaway on June 29, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty; parents, Bert and Mary Ruth Campbell; sister, Ruth Arendt (Conrad). Herb is survived by his three children: MarkCampbell (Rebecca) of Bismarck; Suzanne Sims (Barry) of North Little Rock; and Andy Campbell of North Little Rock; his grandchildren: Clark Sims (Kimmie), Spencer and Olivia Sims; and Sarah, Markie and Ella Campbell. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives who loved him very much. Herb was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 35 years of service. He also served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1955. He was a graduate of North Little Rock High School and UALR. Herb loved hunting and fishing with his buddies at Red Hill Deer Club, watching his grandchildren play sports, golfing, square dancing, camping, traveling with Betty and their friends, and spending time with his precious grandchildren. IAN DAVID CAMPBELL, age 79, of Little Rock departed this life on June 29, 2012. Born to Kate Nicoll and David Jack Campbell in Glasgow, Scotland, on Dec. 21, 1932, Ian immigrated as an 8-year-old war-evacuee to this country in 1940. Raised by his great-aunt and cousin in DeWitt,he moved to Little Rock in 1948. In junior high, he joined the Civil AirPatrol as a cadet, where he learned to fly, getting his pilot’s license before his driver’s license. He eventually rose through the CAP ranks attaining the rank of Captain. After graduating from Little Rock CentralHigh, he served his adopted country in the US Air Force. On leaving the service, he obtained his education at Little Rock Junior College (now UALR), and State Teacher’s College (now UCA). During a summer job as a lifeguard at the Little Rock Country Club, Ian met and married Sue Worthen Walsh. His business career spanned 40 years in the insurance industry. Ian replaced his love of flying for a love of sailing, owning four sailboats, one of which he built from scratch. Another of his life-long hobbies followed in his father’s footsteps: amateur radio. He served as Net Control for the US Power Squadron radio net, ran phone patches for servicemen stationed overseas (before the days of cell phones), eventually earning membership in the DX Century Club, signifying communication with other Ham stations in at least 100 different countries. Preceded in death by his parents and his son, Ian David Campbell Jr., Ian is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sue Walsh Campbell; daughter Mollie Campbell Papan and her husband, Curran, andhis daughter, Kristin; grandchildren Olivia Worthen Goza and Ian Russell Goza, all of Little Rock; and sister Sheena Campbell Rose and her husband, Morse, of Byhalia, Miss.; and nieces and nephews. BARBARA E. NORTHUP, 61, passed away Thursday, June 28,2012, from a six year battle of cancer. She was born on Dec. 16, 1950, in Lake City to deaf parents, John and Zelma Carter.
On May 12, 1979, she married the love of her life, ErnestNorthup, and enjoyed 33 years of marriage before her passing. Barbara was an amazing woman who showed the value of family first as a loving wife, gracious mother and fun-filled Nana. As a counselor, teacher, interpreter and leader, she inspired many to pursue their passions in deafness while serving at the Arkansas School for the Deaf, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock IEP and in the Arkansas deaf community. Her book and lasting legacy, "Aura's Journey, God's Faithfulness in the Life of a Young Honduran Deaf Woman" will continue to influence a life of service and faith for all.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest; children, Jennifer Northup, Chris and Karen Owens, Aura Rivas, Isaiah and Sarah Beth Woodyard, Katie Northup; grandchildren, Jacob, Carolina and Micah and many close extended family members. REV. JAMES T. PHILLIPS, 68, of Little Rock, born Nov. 19, 1943,departed this life on June 29, 2012. He graduated from Jones High School. Rev. Phillips began preaching the gospel at the age of nine years old. He lead thousands to Christ andpastored many. Rev. Phillips pastored at Springfield Baptist Church, St. Peter's Rock in Cato, Ark., Steel Memorial Baptist Church, Metropolitan Baptist Church in Denver, Colo., LoneWah Baptist Church in Monroe, La., Gaines Street Baptist Church. He founded and pastored Fellowship Missionary BaptistChurch, and he was also Assistant Pastor of St. James Baptist Church on Las Vegas, Nev. Rev. Phillips had a great love for preaching, praying and singing. He sang with: The Gospel Tones of Las Vegas, Nev., The Singing Corinthians of Compton, Calif. Dorothy Jones and the Jones Singers, Zion Five and The Southland Singers. He recorded the single "A Talk With Him" and also a sermon entitled "The Eagle Stirred His Nest." Rev. MAJOR WILLIAM BROWN POWELL JR, USMC (Ret) passed awayJune 29, 2012, in Little Rock, Ark., after a lengthy illness. Bill was born April 25, 1930, in Hartfield, Va., to the late William Brown Powell and Virginia Estelle Roundy Powell.
Bill grew up in Tidewater Virginia area and, like most children of the Depression era, learned to work at a young age. He spent his youth working as a mechanic, oysterman, deliveryman, carpenter and anything else to get by. He inherited a passion for automobiles from his father. He shared this passion not only with his sons but with his grand-sons as well. His passion and skill enabled him to earn a few extra dollars rebuilding cars and selling them. As a teenager, he volunteered with the Sea Scouts, helping patrol the eastern coastline during WWII. It was also during this time that Bill competed in the boxing ring against fleet boxers from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. It paid eight dollars to the winner, five dollars to the loser. He nearly always came home with eight dollars.
A trip to the beach changed his life forever. It was here he met, Virginia Ann Smith whom he married June 24, 1950. Together they raised five children. Bill enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1952 which began a distinguished 27 year career with marine aviation. During his career, he spent two tours of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Bill's outstanding leadership and technical abilities earned him a field commission enabling his membership in the distinguished Marine Corps Mustang Association. Bill was a decorated war veteran. His awards include three Bronze Stars with combat V for valor under fire; the Purple Heart; Meritorious Service Medal; the Navy Achievement Medal with combat V; Combat Action Ribbon; Cross of Gallantrywith Palms; and the Vietnam Service Medal with six stars for over thirty one different combat operations against enemy force.
Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, Bill's vast skills and experience led him to a career at Dassault Falcon Jet Corporation in Little Rock, Ark. Bill, never intimidated and always ready for a challenge, conquered the world wide web. This new technology allowed him to re-connect with childhood friends, long lost cousins and fellow Marines. These communications led him to attend many joyous reunions with fellow marines in the USMC Combat Helicopter Association known as Pop-A-Smoke. It was always enlightening to family members to see the respect and admiration he received at any gathering of veterans who served with him during his time in the Marines.He clearly impacted the lives of a great number of individuals and continued to have regular contact with many of them 45 years later. Despite all of his professional accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He never failed to give Virginia credit for raising the children and managing the household single-handedly, during his many deployments. Bill was known to set the bar high, but it was never higher than he set for himself. He truly led by example and was unfailingly supportive of his children in everything they did from rock bands to Little League Sports. The Marines Corp motto is Semper Fi (always faithful). He lived that motto and served as an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia A. Powell, and five children: Gary Powell (Charlotte) of Wichita, Kan., Bill Powell (Meg Jones) of Memphis, Tenn., Denise James (Tom) of Escondido, Calif., Rick Powell of Memphis, Tenn., and Sue Hibbs (Tim) of Sherwood, Ark. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. In addition, Bill is survived by three sisters: Olivia Foster (Bert) of Frederick, Md., Jean Batchelor (Doug) of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Doris Champion of Crestview, Fla. FLOYD SIMS, age 87, of North Little Rock, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, following a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Leila Watson, son, Steve Sims (Rimee) and granddaughter, Zyrene, brother, Loyd Sims (Freda) of North Little Rock, Norman Watson (Carol) of Russellville, Ark.; Debra Miller (Phil) of Bryant, Ark.; Nancy Peters (Gary) of Fort Smith, Ark., and John Watson of North Little Rock, Ark., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MARGARET HORANZO SYLER, born Aug. 24, 1920, went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2012. She served two years each in the Navy and Army as a nurse. She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Kim Syler; two granddaughters, Ashley Hilliard and husband Don out of Somonauk Ill., Shannon Henry of Little Rock, Ark.; and one great grandson Matthew Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband William P.Syler, three sisters and a brother.

ANNETTE CARTER WATERS, 80, ofLittle Rock, went home on June 29, 2012. Born in Little Rock, Ark., she was the sixth daughter of John L. and Loretta Masters Carter. She served passionately at Little Rock’s First Baptist Church.She was preceded in death by herparents, her husband, Matthew C. Waters, son, Matthew Alan Waters and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Brian C. Waters (Sharon) of Fayetteville; daughter, Beth Hodde (Herb) of Bentonville; sisters, Ruth (Doty) Brooks and Martha (Fritz) Talley; and grandchildren, Catie Waters of Red Oak, Texas, Lauren, Ben and Alyssa Hodde of Bentonville, and Amanda and Audrey Crosson of Fayetteville.

ROBERT M. WILSON, developer, banker and aviation enthusiast,died on June 28, 2012. Wilson was born Nov. 19, 1922 to Winston Peabody Wilson and Eunice Martin Wilson in Little Rock, Ark. Wilson attended Little Rock public schools and graduated from Little Rock Senior High in 1940. He was a member of the Delta Sigma fraternity and was a soloist with the A Cappella Choir. Wilson was called to active duty and training in the fall of 1940 with the154 Observation Squadron. After attending Louisiana State University for one year, he joined the Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet and received his wings as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served four years as a reconnaissance and mapping pilot in Brazil and Central America during the war. He was discharged in September of 1945 as a captain with senior pilot wings.
After the war, Wilson immediately enrolled in the University of Arkansas and joined the Sigma Chi fraternity. A member of the Student Senate and Blue Key Club and president of the Booster Club, Wilson orchestrated numerous school events including the direction of the half-time activities during the 1946 Cotton Bowl. Wilson completed his degree in industrial management in 1948, and, upon graduation, he founded the Wilson Company and became a Major in the Arkansas Air National Guard as a part-time Guardsman.
Throughout his life, Wilson played a significant role in Arkansas’ emerging real estate and banking markets. Working with Arkansas-Louisiana Gas Co., the Wilson Company developed seven major subdivisions in Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. In addition to the Wilson Company, he formed TWC Mortgage Company, merging with Thom Godwin Wilson. Later the company acquired the Modern American Mortgage Company, which was sold to Union National Bank. In 1970 Wilson joined the Union National Bank as Senior Vice President where he was in charge of lending and mortgage operations. The Mortgage Company grew from less than two million in servicing to an excess of two billion during his tenure.
He retired from Union National in 1998. After retiring from the Union National Bank, he and George Pitts purchased Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan to create Central Bank and Trust which was sold to Arvest Bank in 2000. In 2002 he purchased a major interest in the First State Bank of Russellville. Wilson also had a great passion for aviation and made major contributions to both military and commercial flight in Arkansas. In 1953 he became the first Base Commander of a newly formed 184th Reconnaissance Squadron that eventually became the 188th Wing. In 1956 he transferred to Headquarters as the State Operations Officer. During his military career he flew a variety of aircraft: PT-19, P-51, B-25, P-80, and B-57. He retired in 1963 as a Lieutenant Colonel with Command Pilot Wings.
In the early 1970s he was appointed to the Little Rock Airport Commission and served 18 years as chairman. During that period the airport developed additional runways making possible the expansion of the next 20 years. In 2004, Wilson was inducted in the Aviation Hall of Fame for his contributions. Wilson was also an active member in his community. He was a founding member of St. Marks Episcopal Church. Later, Wilson joined Trinity Cathedral and served on its vestry. He served on the boards of the Boy Scouts of America Quapaw, the Boys and Girls Club, the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, and the Mortgage Bankers Association of Arkansas. Wilson was also a member of the Little Rock Country Club, the Rotary Club, and the Old Goats, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Wilson is predeceased by his brother Maj. Gen. Winston Wilson Jr., chief of the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C., his sister Jeanne Anthony, founder of the Anthony School, and his first wife Jan Herrick.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jane McGehee Wilson; sons Robert Wilson Jr. and Charles Wilson; grandchildren Robert Wilson III, Jillian Wilson and Helen Wilson; nieces Deann Newell and Andrea Romine; his step-relatives Jim, Scott, Lisa, Sam, Max, Sophie, Starke, Margie, Scotty, Milo, and Ely McGehee; his close business associate Janet Dillon, and his life-long housekeeper Dorothy Hickman.
Bob Wilson was widely known as a man with a zest for life, generosity of spirit, and profound integrity and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. HENRIETTE “YETTY” ZILVINSKIS, 96, died June 28, 2012, in her home where she lived with two of her daughters for the last nine years. Her final days were spent at home surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some small way throughout her very memorable life. Previously she had lived in Little Rock, Ark., for more than 40 years. She was born in the city of Utrecht, The Netherlands in 1916. She met her future husband, Joseph Zilvinskis, during World War II while serving as an officer with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. After they were married they lived in South America while waiting to immigrate to theUnited States where they settled in Arkansas in 1963.
Her interests included ballroom dancing, gardening and reading. A Catholic, she will be buried from Christ the King Catholic Church. She was preceded in death in 1980 by her husband of 35 years, Joseph Zilvinskis. Mrs. Zilvinskis is survived by her five children, Marie Antoinette Zilvinskis, Maria Therese Bell Sr., Janina Zilvinskis, Daughter of Charity, Helen Gloria Zilvinskis, Joseph Henri Zilvinskis; four grandchildren; and five greatgrandchildren. Visitation will be held at Christ the King Church on Thursday evening, July 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. and Rosary services at 7 p.m.

DARDANELLE - Billy K. Berry, age 87, of Dardanelle, died Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Chambers Memorial Hospital in Danville. He was born Nov. 3, 1924 at Dover, Ark. He was the son of the late Floyd Ellis Berry and the late Ruth Susie Eudy Berry.
As patriarch ofthe Berry and Eudy Clans, he was preceded in death by a son, Tim Allen Berry, who died in 1969, a brother, Jack Ellis Berry and a sister,Bernice Hottinger.
He was a graduate of Dover High School. During WWII, Bill’s B17 was shot down and he was injured on his second mission, but went on to complete 35 bombing missions over Germany.
After the war, he earned an associate of Arts Degree from Arkansas Polytechnic College (now ATU) and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He began his career a pharmacist and store manager for Walgreens before coming to Dardanelle in 1957 where he started Berry Drug Store. Berry Drug very quickly became a household name and a meeting place in the area.
He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lorayne Bacus Berry; two sons, Dr. William Lewis Berry (Donna) of Danville and Dr. Bruce Ellis Berry (Kim) of Greenville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Will Berry and Anne Goemeer (Lee) of Russellville, Phil Berry (Heather) of Little Rock, Laurie Berry, Mattie Berry, Tim Berry and David Berry all of Danville, B.J., Harrison, Kayla and Laura Berry all of Greenville, Tenn.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

FAYETTEVILLE - James Henry “Jim” Moore, 74, of Fayetteville died Thursday, June 28, 2012, in Fayetteville. He was born Oct. 8, 1937, in Cardon Bottom, Ark., the son of Leon Moore and Louise Romine Moore Rone. He married the former Betty Ashmore in Russellville, Ark., in 1957.
He was employed by Arkansas Western Gas for 38 years before retiring in 1998. He also retired from the Fayetteville Fire Department in January 1986 after 20 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of the NRA and was a member of the Jackson Nob Deer Club. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He served in the Arkansas National Guard for eight years. He and his wife, Betty are known for the many friends they have.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Moore of the home; mother, Louise Rone of Independence, Mo.; sister, Evon Smith of Independence, Mo.; two grandchildren, Sydney Blair and Mason Garrett McConnell; and several nieces and nephews.

FAYETTEVILLE - Dr. Paige Elliott Mulhollan, age 77, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed peacefully June 30, 2012, in Fayetteville after a short illness, surrounded by his family. Dr. Mulhollan was born in Fort Smith, Ark., on Dec. 10, 1934, to Paige Elwood Mulhollan and Ruth (Berry) Mulhollan. Dr. Mulhollan was a respected scholar, a passionate sailor, an avid birder and beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Dr. Mulhollan’s academic credentials included a master’s degree in history from the University of Arkansas, a doctorate in history from the University of Texas, and an honorary doctor of letters from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His academic career included administrative positions at Kansas State University (Associate Dean of the Arts and Sciences and Associate Professor of History), the University of Oklahoma (Dean of the Arts and Sciences and Professor of History), Arizona State University (Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer), and Wright State University (President and Professor of History 1985-1994 and President Emeritus 1994-2012). In June 2012, Wright State University dedicated the Mulhollan Field in the Rinzler Student Sports Complex in honor of his contributions to the Universityduring his tenure as President.
His early academic career included an assignment to the University of Texas Oral History Project as a Senior Research Associate. He was responsible for interviewing leading members of the foreign policy community associated with President Lyndon B. Johnson and his administration for the oral history collection of the LBJ (Lyndon Baines Johnson) Presidential Library in Austin, Texas. Other academicassociations included over 20 years on the North Central Association, consultant to the National Endowment of the Humanities, chair of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges, member of the President’s Commission - National Collegiate Athletics Association, member of the National Advisory Committee to the Air Force ROTC, and member of the Air Force Institute of Technology Foundation.
During the course of his sailing career, Dr. Mulhollan sailed the five Great Lakes and made multiple sailing trips in the Caribbean. He served as an official for the 1996 Olympics sailing trials held off the coast of Georgia. As a longtime birder Dr. Mulhollan participated on numerous Audubon field counts in Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Ohio, South Carolina and Arkansas. He achieved a birder’s life list containing over 670 species of birds identified during his travels across five continents.
Dr. Mulhollan and his wife, Mary Bess, retired in Hilton Head, South Carolina, from 1994-2004. Dr. Mulhollan approached retirement with the same enthusiasm and dedication as his academic career. While in Hilton Head he was President of the Hilton Head Audubon Society, President of the Carolina Butterfly Association, co-president (along with his wife) of the Hilton Head Land Trust, a volunteer with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and a board member and volunteer for the Coastal Discovery Museum.
In 2005, Dr. Mulhollan and his wife returned to live in Fayetteville. While in Fayetteville he served as the executive director of the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks for two years, a board member of the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks (2005-2012), a board member of the Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society, a board member of the University of Arkansas Retirement Association, and a member of the Rotary Club of Fayetteville (2005-2012).
Dr. Mulhollan is survived by his wife Mary Bess; son, Paige E. Mulhollan Jr. and wife Marilyn, of Chandler, Ariz.; son Kelly Vernon Mulhollan and wife, Donna, of Fayetteville; three granddaughters, Shannon Mulhollan of Fayetteville, Ryan Nicole Dotson and husband Steve of Chandler, Ariz., and Kaitlyn Mulhollan of Los Angeles, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Emerson Rose Mulhollan of Fayetteville; and brother, Dr. James Mulhollan and wife Brenda of Little Rock, Ark.

She was born March 22, 1922, to the late Jessie Mary Clements Bracey and Almon Brooks Bracey in Louisiana. Mrs. France was a member of FirstBaptist Church and a Homemaker. HOT SPRINGS - Gary H. Kell, 71, of Hot Springs, Ark., passedaway June 29, 2012. Gary was a senior at Little Rock Central during the 1957-1958 school year. He left high school in January of 1958 to join the U.S. Navy. Gary spent two years at the U.S. Navy base inPensacola, Fla., and 1 1/2 years on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea in the South Pacific. Upon leavingthe Navy, Gary worked two years as route manager for the Coca Cola Co. He then worked five years as a railway mail clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1969, Gary found the job he loved, working for 30 years as a mortgage banker. Gary was employed by Lomas and Nettleton Mortgage Banking Co. from 1969 to 1976, then by Worthen Mortgage Co. from 1976-1979 as Sr. Vice-President. In 1979 he went back to Lomas Mortgage USA, in Dallas, as Sr. Vice-President and stayed in that position until 1984 when he was promoted to Executive Vice-President, serving from 1984-1994. In 1994, Gary was promoted to President where he served until Lomas sold to a bank in 1997. Gary also served as President of the Arkansas Mortgage Bankers Association in 1974. Gary invested in real estate; he bought and sold over 50 single family homes and was a partner in many apartmentsand condo projects. After retiring in 1997, Gary moved to Hot Springs. He and his family loved Lake Hamilton and built a home on the lake. Gary also loved to spend time at Oaklawn Race Track. He loved to travel with his wife, Sharon; they visited 46 out of the 50 states.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Jessie Kell; his loving in-laws, Betty and Clyde Karnes, and his brother-in-law, Larry Parker. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 52 1/2 years, Sharon; his brother, Dan Kell and wife, Pam; his sister, Mary Parker; a daughter, Karen Snow; a son, Tony Kell and his wife, Stacy, and three grandchildren; Jaclyn Kell, Haley Kell and Jake Kell. Gary will be missed by his family and friends.
Gary wanted to send a special thank you to Hospice Home Care, the Doctors and Nurses on the 4th floor, west wing and to Dr. Kota and the chemotherapy staff at Mercy Cancer Center. HOT SPRINGS - James Hudson Shadle died unexpectedly in his home in Hot Springs, Ark., on Dec. 21, 2011. He was 70 years old. Jim, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Point Deluce, Ark., on Aug. 8, 1941. He and his family moved to Elaine, Ark., while he was a young child, and it is there that he grew up. He graduated from Elaine High School in 1959. After abrief time in college, he enlisted in the US Army, qualifying as a paratrooper and was attached to the prestigious 101 Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky. He was eventually transferred to Korea, where he completed his enlistment.
After a few years as a civilian, Jim again enlisted, this time in the US Coast Guard. Because of his airborne training (he was comfortable jumping out of aircraft!), he selected the USCG Air Survivalman rate as his specialty. Upon completion of his training, he was immediately assigned to USCG Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, conducting patrols of the dangerous Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. He was subsequently assigned to several other USCG Air Stations through the years, Cape Cod, Mass., New Orleans, La., Sitka, Alaska, and finally, Traverse City, Mich. At each of these various air stations, he was involved in numerous hazardous air/sea rescues of personnel and vessels, particularly while assigned in Kodiak and Sitka.Between his assignments to Sitka and Traverse City, he also served several years as a very successful US Coast Guard Recruiter during assignments to Little Rock, Ark., and Pekin, Ill. He had earned the rank of Air Survivalman First Class, and, while at Traverse City, was selected as Chief Warrant Officer Second. He was subsequently transferred to Marine Safety Office, Miami, Fla., where he served as the assistant supervisor of the Merchant Marine Licensing office where he was responsible for testing applicants and issuing licenses for merchant seamen. He retired from the US Coast Guard in 1987 and returned to his home state of Arkansas to live on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs, surrounded by his many, many friends. During his retirement he developed a passion for computers, inventions and physical fitness.
Jim was a devoted son to his parents, who preceded him in death, Mervin and Hester Shadle of Elaine, Ark. He had two sisters, Gladys Patricia Cazort (Fred) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Peggy Shadle Hopwood (Dick) of Phoenix, Ariz. He had one niece, Margaret Jones (Robert), and two nephews, Richard Cazort (Carol) and John Cazort, and one great-nephew, Kenneth Cazort. Jim was a really fine man who devoted his adult life to service to his country and his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many. A memorial gathering and graveside service will be held on July 7, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, Ark. All friends are welcome. HUMPHREY - Billy Eugene Durden, born July 25, 1926, near Humnoke, Ark., to William (Buster) Durden and Zettie Sales Durden. He was a retired farmer, avid hunter, fisherman and a life-long resident of Humnoke/Humphrey area. He went home to be with the Lord June 29, 2012, at Pines Nursing and Rehab Center in Hot Springs, Ark. He was 84. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Pauline Lyons Durden; five brothers, Carl, Lewis, Freed Durden, Joe and Edward Crockett. One step-brother, Tom Goad; three sisters, Jewel Durden, Beatrice Crawford and Burlee McMillen. He is survived by two sisters, Norma Strawn (twin) of Humnoke and Betty Rodgers of Sun City, Calif., four children, Billie Jean Sherman (Jimmy) of Humphrey, Becky Hall (Calvin) of Little Rock, Patty Bogy (Tommy) of Wabbaseka and Carlos Durden (Nichole) of Bismarck, 10 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. MORRILTON - Viola Helena Dunlap, age 74, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012, in Little Rock, Ark. Viola was born Dec. 19, 1937, in San Bernadino, Calif., a daughter to the late Orby Gaines and Frances Taylor Gaines. Viola was a member of the Christian Church in Beaumont, Calif., and she worked at the Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for many years. Viola was a fun, witty person who always kept you laughing. She never met a stranger.
Viola is survived by her husband of 56 years, Earl Dunlap of Morrilton; two sons, Earl Douglas Dunlap of North Little Rock, and Gary Dunlap and wife Sue of Fort Smith, Ark.; one daughter, Caroline Goodloe and husband Dennis of Little Rock; grandchildren, Lea Goodloe, Andrea Lewis, Tabitha Childers and Nathan Dunlap; great-grandchildren, Davis, Jared, Clarissa, Justin, Alex, Zeanna, Logan and Kylee. OLA - Dale J. McCoy, 78, of Ola, Ark., passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, Ark. He was the youngest of the eight children of Harry and Eva Woodward Mc-Coy, he was born Dec. 1, 1933, in Nimrod, Ark. He married Patricia Ann George on Dec. 31, 1955, at Ola, Ark. He was a 1952 graduateof Ola High School and served in the Army for two years in Fort Sill,Okla. After leaving the military, they moved to Little Rock, Ark., where he worked for Bush-Caldwell Sporting Goods for 19 years. He moved home to Birta and was warehouse manager with Bruce-Rogers Plumbing in Russellville for over 20 years. He was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Church of Birta and served as the Sunday school superintendant for many years. He had a passion for sports, and he never tired of recounting stories of playing baseball and football.
Dale watched his nieces and nephews play sports through the years, and as his nephews grew up and became coaches he would travel to those games as well. He loved his family and enjoyed all the family and school reunions. Dale was a cattle rancher for many years, and he loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe, Justin, and Percy McCoy; sister, Vonda Burnett; nephew, Larry Mc-Coy; niece, Linda Nicodemus.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Pat McCoy; two brothers, Clyde McCoy and wife Violet of Russellville, twin brother Don McCoy and wife Barbara of Birta; sister, Emma Brasier of King City, Calif., 24 nieces and nephews; 48 great-nieces and nephews; numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

PINE BLUFF - William E. (Bill) Cawthon, 89, of Pine Bluff died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Trinity Village Medical Center. He was born in Hugo, Okla., and raised in Camden, Ark. He dearly loved his father, William Maurice and adored his dear mother, Myrtle King Cawthon.
He retired from International Paper Co. after a long career working in both Camden and Pine Bluff. In retirement, he enjoyed many years of seeing parts of this great country pulling his camper trailer often times to Harlingen, Texas, to spend winters with his wife of 63 years Mary, and his lifelong good and great friend and brother-in-law George Martin and wife Jo. In later years, he thoroughly enjoyed building, flying, crashing, re-building and flying again radio-controlled aircraft with Keith. And during these years of retirement, he was a good and faithful member and servant of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Of all of his life’s journeys, he was most proud to have been an early volunteer to serve in the U.S. Army prior to the outbreak of WWII. As a decorated veteran, he was a member of the 82 Airborne Division and participated in the Normandy invasion to free Europe as a paratrooper at Sword Beach on D-Day 1944 and represents one of this nation’s greatest generations.
He is preceded in death by his Mother, Father and his older brother Richard Bruce Cawthon whom he held in his heart until this very day and now has reunited with them all. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Cawthon of Whispering Knoll; son, Mike Cawthon and wife Virginia of Little Rock; daughter, Lillian Peyton of Pine Bluff; grandson, Michael Cawthon and wife Canem of NY, N.Y.; granddaughter, Heather Walter and husband David of Pine Bluff; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Walter; and extended family and friends.
The family thanks the love and care shown Mr. Cawthon while at both Whispering Knoll Assisted Living Center and Trinity Village. A graveside service will be held Monday, July 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Bethel Cemetery in Thornton, Ark., with Reverend Myron Ford officiating. RUSSELLVILLE - Evelyn Faye Reed Harris, 90, of Russellville diedFriday, June 29, 2012, at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 24, 1922, at Pine Bluff to Arthur Willis and Nancy Veoma Norton Reed. She retired as the ExecutiveDirector from the Board of Realtors after 10 years of service, and organized a USTA Tennis Program through the Boys and Girls Club. She was the Chambers After Hours Chairman, and responsible of securing the place for the Chamber First Friday Luncheon. She received the Russellville Citizen of the Year Award for contribution and leadership in the community and was, with her husband, one of six couples that organized Watson Chapel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. She was a volunteer with the Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She organized and taught the Young Married Sunday School Class and continued to teach the Young Married Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Russellville.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Woody Allen Harris, and a daughter, Saundra Hope. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Harris of Tulsa, Okla., and Ron and Vikki Harris of North Little Rock; a daughter, Sharon Harris of Maumelle; nine grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren, a nephew, Michael Watson of Plano, Texas, and a niece, Carol Barr of Russellville. STUTTGART - Bill Fly of Stuttgart, Ark., went to be with his Savior June 29, 2012. He is preceded indeath by his father, Wayne Fly. He is survived by his wife, Kate Fly, his mother, Sophia Fly, four children: Tasha (John) Herman, Alix (Chris) Stephens, Jared (Angela) Segars and Lasha (Tim) Taylor, eight grandchildren, a brother, Jerry (Cynthia) Fly, and one nephew.
Bill attended college at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville until serving in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Army Air Medal, Commendation Medal, Achievment Medal and Good Conduct Medal together with three Battle Ribbons for the 1968 TET Offensive. He resumed his education in Fayetteville after his discharge from the Army and earned his degree in Business Administration. He served as a Bank Examiner for the State of Arkansas then re-turned to DeWitt to his family farm. He continued to farm until his retirement in 2011. Bill has served on numerous committees and boards including the Architectural Board of the State of Arkansas, Engineers and Land Surveyors Board of the State of Arkansas, Arkansas Rural Development Commission, Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, Blue Ribbon Committee on Critical Groundwater Study for the State of Arkansas, Quorum Court of Arkansas County, alderman for the City of DeWitt, Board of Directors of Arkansas County Farm Bureau, Grand Prairie Regional Water Distribution District and was a member of the American Legion 40-8.

MARIANNA, Fla. - Bobby W. Ward, age 80, passed away on June 28, 2012 in Marianna, Fla. Bobby was born Oct. 13, 1931 in Bee Branch, Ark., to Jeff and Alva Ward who preceded him in death. He also had two brothers, Billy Ward and Charles Ward of North Little Rock, Ark., who preceded him in death. Survivors include one sister, Sue Head who resides in Sherwood, Ark.; daughter, Linda Ward of North Little Rock, Ark.; son, Randy Ward, grandchildren, Gentry Ward and Hunter Ward all of Marianna, Fla.; and granddaughter, Breanna and husband, Mario Reyes of Pensacola, Fla.
Upon graduation from North Little Rock High School, Bobby became a licensed master plumber. He started his very successful plumbing business where he worked until his retirement in the 1980s. Bobby was an avid sports fan and coached little league baseball for many years. He was a member of Arkansas National Guard. In 2003, Bobby moved to Malone, Fla., and joined the First Baptist Church of Malone. Bobby loved his church, family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
