Main Purpose of Job

Police CommunicationsOperators will provide the full performance level of police communications workwithin the Department of General Services-MD Capitol Police (DGS-MCP). Thiswill be accomplished by operating the Computer Assisted Dispatch/Records ManagementSystem (CAD/RMS) and multi-channel police radio equipment.

This is an emergencyessential classification subject to emergency release procedures. Employees inthis classification must be willing and available for duty at such hours, dayor night and are required to remain or report for duty at such hours as neededto maintain the continuous operation of this agency. If you are the selectedcandidate for this position, you will be required to complete a pre-employmentphysical, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essentialfunctions of this position.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for thisposition include but are not limited to:

- Receive and transmitinformation via multi-channel radio; information must be recorded accuratelywithin the CAD/RMS.

- Receive, direct andhandle all telephone communications coming into the Police CommunicationsCenter; information must be recorded accurately within the CAD/RMS.

- Monitor securitycameras for criminal or suspicious activity and dispatch appropriate personnel.

- Monitor intrusionalarms, fire alarms, parking lot access control, and respond appropriately.

- Operate NCIC/MILESterminal and provide requested information in a timely manner.

- Responsible formaintaining shift reports, NCIC, MILES log and other paperwork required.

- Any duty orresponsibility required to allow DGS-MCP the ability to fulfil its overallmission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accreditedhigh school or possession of ahigh school equivalency certificate.

Experience: None.

Note:Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Operations Specialistclassifications or Signal Corps, Cyberspace Support, or Communications specialty codes in the communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference willbe given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regarding thequalifications.

- Knowledge and useof multi-channel radios

- A degree from anaccredited university in relevant field of study
